Dive Site Description of Shark Point

Miaru Faru also known as Shark point lies on the eastern side of the South Male Atoll. Nearby islands include Ghuli and Dhigu Finolhu. The dive spot is outside the reef in the north of the channel and it is common to drift dive with the incoming currents. The reef is 10 meters below the surface of the water then drops down to 30 meters at a 45 degree angle.

Starting outside the reef and ending inside the channel is usually how drift dives are made at Miaru Faru / Shark Point. Currents can be strong but therefore require less energy from experienced divers as they make their way towards the reef. At 25 meters there are numerous grottoes and at the edge of the reef there is a steep wall both of which can be explored.

Sharks are often seen here as they swim through the channel particularly when the currents are strong. Whitetip reef sharks and Grey reef sharks are common as well as eagle rays. Other life forms that frequent Miaru Faru / Shark Point include leaf fish batfish and bannerfish.
